Fish and chips sales are expected to surge in the coming weeks, now that the Lenten season is upon us has and a significant part of the population will refrain from eating meat for seven consecutive Fridays. Whether you're observing Lent or not, for devoted fish and chips lovers, nothing beats all-you-can-eat nights.

Some spots are AYCE, some churches or clubs, and others Twin Cities restaurants making the extra effort in the name of almighty cod. Here are our Metromix picks for Friday fish fries in the Twin Cities, and if you have any other suggestions, leave them in the comments below.

After switching tracks from a grocery and feed store to a bar in 1931, Obb’s hasn’t looked back. On Fridays it's$ 10.95 for AYCE pollock and your choice of baked or French fried potatoes.

McMahon’s is always serving up some of the best fish and chips in town, and on Fridays, for $8.95, you can get AYCE of the catch of the day Harp beer-battered served with thick cut pub chips (fries) and homemade coleslaw.

Raising the fish fry bar, the Red Stag offers an extended pescatarian menu every Friday. Selections include various sizes of blue gill, northern and cod as well as other seafood specialties. Entree prices are a little steep, but the baskets are comparable.

A true community center, this place is named after the intersection near which it resides. For Lent, you can get fried cod, with baked potato, green beans and a dinner roll, in neighborhood of $6.50; $7.25 for shrimp and $7.50 for both fish and shrimp. This is not an AYCE joint.
