Open on the University of Minnesota campus just since mid-May is Bun Mi—a small, quick eats spot serving up their version of the Vienamese báhn mì sandwich that is sure to please.
The bun mi sandwiches come with a choice of meat topped with pickled, yet crunchy, vegetables (daikon and carrots), cilantro, cucumber, jalapeno, green onions and the thinnest layer of mayo folded into a chewy baguette with a crisp crust. Regular toppings options are priced at $4.75 and special toppings at $5.25
The menu contains several options including the classic Vienamese with BBQ pork, pork roll and pate, the mock duck curry or the fried tofu with grilled peppers and onions. We tried the lemongrass chicken and the BBQ pork and grilled beef—both were satisfyingly tender and perfectly seasoned.
If it’s not a sandwich you’re after, they also offer a Salad Mi menu option ($5.95 - $6.95). Vermicelli noodles, veggies and toppings such as grilled meatball skewers, eggrolls and sautéed shrimp make up their version of this classic noodle salad dish.
