While the name of the restaurant might be tying your tongue in knots, you won’t have to choke down any sub-par sushi at Giapponese. The Shrimp Shumai makes a nice start to an evening of sushi. The Wasabi Tobiko Roll takes a slightly spicier spin on a classic spicy tuna roll and the Crazy Monkey Roll, smoked salmon, avocado, cream cheese and mango, is a fruity fusion of flavors. For non-sushi eaters, the menu of entrees is where you will get hints of the Italian-Japanese influence (Giapponese…get it?). The Wafu Spaghetti is tossed with poached Hawaiian blue prawns, masago, oba, dashi and ponzu. The atmosphere feels a bit cold and exposed, rather than the intended minimal and industrial, but don’t let that stop you from stopping in.
