Café’ Maude has a moderately priced menu with enough originality to make it interesting. The restaurant is small and nicely decorated with large Picasso prints on dark walls. Wooden tables with cloth napkins form two rows across from the bar which appears to serve beer & wine only, as no cocktail menu was presented. The wine selection was average. The service is friendly, although our server was not particularly well versed on the menu items. She was there to take our order.
Our meals arrived (too) quickly, as if management was concerned about turning the table before the dinner rush was over. We somewhat felt rushed rather than at ease, and did not feel invited to linger over drinks, coffee and conversation. The food itself was good, but flavors (although well chosen) tended to run together. Portion size was ample.
Café’ Maude is primarily a neighborhood restaurant, and a nice change from the Applebee’s and Fridays chains. Beats doing the dishes.
Parking is available in the rear of the building.
