Always get whatever is on special @ Señor Wongs!

I ate a Señor Wongs for the Dining Out for Life event and had the Chef's special - it was out of this world! The waiter told us that chef Cody had done much of his training at a 5 diamond restaurant in Maine - which made his seafood game tops.

And tops it was! The Opah (or Moonfish) was seared and seasoned to perfection with a firm and delicate texture. It came atop a sushi rice risotto with time Asian mushrooms and a creamy edamame sauce. WOW! I have had other things on the menu, and have never had any complaints, but have never been wowed like I was with this.

Bottom line- if chef Cody is serving up seafood - you better be buying!

Cold sweet Saki of mine..

I do agree that Senor Wong is so far, more Wong than Senor. But who cares as long as the food is tasty, affordable, and has a creative flavorful flair to it. I go here every couple of weeks and the there is always something unique and exotic on the menu to try. It really shows that the chef is encouraged to stretch his culinary skills and most of the time, he gets it right (big time). The selection of wine, Saki, and exotic beers compliments the unique menu perfectly. You definitely are not limited to standard liquor fair and if you’re like me, you’ll easily find the perfect drink for the mood your in. This is a good segue into Senor Wong’s ambiance. As soon as you walk into the place, you immediately get a sense and feel of what the owners want us to experience. An eclectic, downtown dark lounge with themed Asian décors and nuances of Latino colors that all strive to pull you into a mood of relaxation and repose. On the weekends, Senor Wong hosts a rotating gallery of talented DJ’s featuring music that is diverse as their customers, which only enhances the overall experience. With all these good things about Senor Wong’s, there are a couple of things I’d like to impart on them. Ditch the short crabby waitress with the curls and place a “Reserved” sign on the “Best” spot in the joint, because I got a craving for some Korean Short Ribs and side of cold sweet Saki!

I gave Senor Wong a 5-rating overall. Don't let the name fool you. This isn't your stereotypical "asian" or "mexican" place. The crowd is just as diverse. As far as food goes, I gave it a four because I found the food to be a bit too salty for my taste. The ambiance is nice. It's the perfect dark when you can mix in candlelighting and chillout/ambient music. It's a trendy and classy spot. As far as services goes, they have yet to disappoint. So, I'm going back on Friday nights because I think the value I get is top notch. The best spot in the place is the double couch in front of the DJ.

Oh. . .and they do say that "absinthe makes the heart grow fonder!"
