Red Hot Chili Peppers (inducted)
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its 2012 inductees on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Artists that got their start in the '80s dominate this year's class: Guns N' Roses, the Beastie Boys and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Also finally gaining entrance into the hallowed Hall: '60s singer-songwriters Laura Nyro and Donovan; Rod Stewart's former band, the Faces (aka the Small Faces); and bluesman Freddie King. Aside from Nyro, female nominees were shut out, so fans of Joan Jett, Heart, Donna Summer and Chaka Khan will have to wait at least another year for the Rock Hall to give the ladies their due. Between the Beasties, the Chilis and Axl Rose, 2012 is shaping up to be a bro fest (though it remains to be seen if there will be much bro-love between Rose and his ex-bandmate/arch-nemesis, Slash).
Among this year's non-performers to be inducted: late producer and TV host Don Kirshner, producer/engineers Tom Dowd and Glyn Johns, and New Orleans recording studio owner Cosimo Matassa.

The induction ceremony will take place in Cleveland on April 14 and broadcast on HBO in May.
