14. The Casbah (San Diego)
Despite its tiny capacity (around 200) and dive-bar atmosphere, the Casbah has had a reputation for attracting top-notch talent ever since it first opened in an even tinier location just down the street from its present site in 1989. "You can go there any night and you’ll hear a cool band," says Tom DeLonge of Blink-182, one of a number of San Diego area bands who got their start on the Casbah's cramped stage (along with other acclaimed acts like Pinback, the Album Leaf, Rocket From the Crypt, Crash Worship and a young singer named Eddie Vedder). All that history and a lot of love for the venue's "super nice" (the Dirtbombs) owner, Tim Mays, makes the Casbah one of the best-loved rock clubs among the artists we polled.
