AC/DC at the Xcel Energy Center
AC/DC have made their name by playing music that's loud, seedy and full of high voltage energy. And at their sold out concert at the Xcel Energy Center, AC/DC stuck to their classic formula.
Hey, if the rock ain't broke, don't fix it, right?
The classic rock legends started out their set with an animation of a demon Angus Young guiding a rock'n'roll train towards our Twin Cities; busty babes in skimpy outfits carressed his devil tail as the steam in the locomotive engine (and the over heating Angus) built up until—BANG!— the lights came up on a life-sized train with a smoking engine smoking and the band taking the stage.
The set list combined a great range of their classic tracks ("Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap", "T'n'T" and "Back in Black") with the hits ("You Shook Me All Night Long", "Highway to Hell" and "Thunderstruck") and also some tracks from their new album "Black Ice". The train was one of a few parts of the over-sized stage show that featured the classic AC/DC bell dropping from the ceiling for "Hells Bells" and a giant inflatible doll riding the train for "Whole Lotta Rosie".
It's ironic that Angus Young has kept his school boy uniform on for so long, since, for the past four decades, the AC/DC guitarist has been teaching generations about rock in its purest form. (He actually stripped the uniform off down to his AC/DC briefs during a striptease to "The Jack", and played most of the show in just his shorts.) But the show was a great lesson in rock, and Angus will be back for another show at the X to see if we've been studying up.
