Though West of Memphis (* * * out of four) boasts more than 15 artists, and a song lineup heavy on covers and re-recordings, this package is focused and compelling.

There are songs from and inspired by the documentary of the same name, the story of three teens convicted for the 1993 murders of three young boys - and their fight for exoneration.

Some of the musicians involved in their cause are featured, including Eddie Vedder (a lovely ukulele love song), Henry Rollins, Natalie Maines (a potent cover of Pink Floyd's Mother) and Marilyn Manson (an unsparing You're So Vain). Two tracks featuring Johnny Depp are inconsequential, but Lucinda Williams' redo of Joy is inspired.
