When “Shame,” the latest film from British artist and director Steve McQueen (“Hunger”), premiered at the 2011 Venice film festival, it instantly had critics and audiences buzzing over the uncompromising portrait of sex addiction.
In the opening moments of the NC-17 rated film, lead actor Michael Fassbender (best known as Magneto in summer's "X-Men: First Class") has multiple full frontal nude scenes. A variety of sex acts follow throughout the movie—all of them intended to give us a deeper understanding of his character's complete inability to develop real intimacy with another person. He may have a lot of sex, but he's always alone, which makes watching the film's racier moments intentionally uncomfortable.
Take a look back at 10 more of the most extreme and uncomfortable sex scenes in movie history.
