OK, the particulars of this one strain credibility—if the U.S. government has ever encased a city in a glass dome to contain hazardous pollution, someone would’ve noticed—but there’s more than a little truth behind the movie’s take-no-prisoners satire. Upholding the TV series’ tradition of brainy comedy, the big screen version casts a critical eye on ecologically clueless buffoons who tarnish the environment—represented by loveably ignorant Homer—without ignoring the individual-rights-trampling downside of the bureaucratic Environmental Protection Agency.
