Photos: Come Fly Away at The Ordway
If you're a sucker for anything dance or appreciate the good, old school sound of Frank Sinatra, then The Ordway's production of the "Come Fly Away" is a must-see.
The show features 15 dancers who are dancing for just about the entire 80 minute performance. Choreographed and directed by the Tony Award-winning Twyla Tharp, the dancers exhibit that elegant mix of classic and modern styles all set to the songs of Frank Sinatra.
While there's no dialouge in the show, it would be unnessecary since the dances follow the sexy, fun, cat and mouse stories for which Sinatra's songs are known.
And let's not forget the set. While there are virtually no changes (all scenes take place in a 60s-esque nightclub), the backdrop on the stage consists of a live band which makes you feel like you're sitting right there sipping on a dirty martini.
Overall, the dancing is amazing and a refreshing look at how an entire story can be expressed through movement.
When the show is over, The Ordway hosts a cocktail gathering with music provided by pianist Lori Dokken. And be sure to order one of the signature cocktails — the "Frank" or "Twyla".
