Promising food and alcohol to get people to do things is the classic everybody-wins con, especially when it's for a good cause. I've been on both sides of this ploy and the results are as follows: the host will always get some butts in the seats and those butts get to eat and drink merrily while they participate in whatever it is the host is up to. Sometimes, the food outshines the event (I don't see a problem with that) but Saturday we think the cause will hold it's own next to the wine and cheese.
FEAST is the shiny new art fundraising event that will be kicking off in Minneapolis this Saturday (Nov. 14, 2009). The first FEAST (Funding Emerging Artists with Sustainable Tactics) events were held in Brooklyn but this is your chance to become part of the birth of this intriguing organization on the local level. Best of all, FEAST knows the value of promising a gourmet meal.
OK, FEAST isn't Gastro Non Grata. It's not just about the earthly sustenance—it's also about the creative sustenance. Patrons will be asked to make a sliding scale donation and one local artiste will reap the profits from the evening in the form of a grant to fund an art project. Artists have been submitting proposals that will be reviewed by the diners (you can also preview them online at FEAST). It's a completely interactive process and an uncommon, open-doors kind of way to determine the recipient of the grant money.
I wish I had more information on the food planned for Saturday but they are keeping it quiet for now. If you have insider secrets, please divulge them in the comment section. I'm getting hungry.
