NEW YORK - Georgina Chapman could be the poster girl for pregnancy.
Chapman, half of the duo behind luxe brand Marchesa, is expecting her second child with her husband, Harvey Weinstein. And she doesn't know the gender.
"Between us we have four girls now, so …" laughs Chapman. "Let's see. We might get a surprise."
On Wednesday afternoon, she and partner Keren Craig were busy putting the finishing touches on their other baby, the plush fall collection.
"It was based on Goya's Portrait of Maria Teresa de Vallabriga on Horseback. Equestrian feel with a Spanish vibe and matador trousers. Georgina really played around with the draping," says Craig.
This time, at an intimate show at the New York Public Library, the women offered up plenty of pants coupled with black duchess jackets, satin strapless bustier tops and high-collared satin coats, along with their signature evening gowns.
"A lot of the embroidery is taken from matador trousers and jackets. You see a lot of threadworks in bright colors," says Chapman.
And with the Oscars looming, the women are crossing their manicured fingers and toes that as usual, a big name will opt to wear one of their creations. Most famously, Sandra Bullock donned Marchesa when she won her award for The Blind Side in 2010.
"It's such an important occasion. It's such an honor," says Chapman.
So right after the show wraps, stylists will start contacting Craig and Chapman.
"Let's hope! We start shipping them out to L.A. tonight," says Craig of the dresses.
Given how glam both women look, do they ever simply wear sweats? "We had a lot of hair and makeup. That's the big secret right there," says Chapman. "You'd be quite shocked if you saw me at home."
