The first link in the Bierstube chain was launched by
entrepreneur Lawrence Yanz in 1962, and his descendents still operate each of
its five locations today. The Oakdale branch is more genuine than its strip
mall location would suggest, a bustling sports bar with a German slant. The
dining menu mixes standard bar grub with Deutschland delicacies like the
bratwurst platter and schweine haxen (ham shanks). Look for daily happy hour
specials and semi-regular visits from the ‘Stube’s resident “strolling
accordion player.”
