One and done: Northeast Social Club

Northeast Minneapolis has been on the rise as a happenin' spot for some time, but 13th Avenue continues to get cooler and cooler.

There's the anchors of Erté, the 331 and The Modern. There's the Galleries like Frank Stone and Gallery 13, and there's the Ritz. There's even Shuga, the new record store that's opening soon down the road.

But despite the multitude of venues, there's not much hustle and bustle in Northeast. So what better place to sit back and sip a beer? Case in point: the Northeast Social Club, the new occupant on the corner of 13th and 4th, combines a laid back late night atmosphere with a good wine selection and a sophisticated selection of taps.

We went with the Brau Pilsner from the Brau Brothers Brewing Company and tried the fried okra and french fries, although the entire menu looked well prepared (albeit a bit spendy). Our app and beer were great for snacking—the okra was like tempura and the Pilz was hoppy, but light—and with the weather finally warming up, the Club slid opened its storefront windows, letting us a little bit of Spring air into the dining area.

Having the windows open also let's the eaters and drinkers inside the Northeast Social Club watch more folks from the neighborhood walk back home after an evening of entertainment. And with this weekend's Art-a-Whirl promising to be packed with art lovers, this new spot will be an even better place to hang out for a beer.
