Maxwell's taco-tastic happy hour

When we heard that Maxwell's had recently re-opened after last year's major fire, we were pretty excited. The tiny corner bar by the Metrodome has always had an atmosphere on non-game days, and it's also been of course a hot spot when either the Vikings or Twins are at home.

The fire did quite a number on the building, but now that the space has been remodeled, apart from the large memorial photos on the walls, it's hard to tell anything happened.

Along with the upgrade to the interior, it's also difficult to tell which drink special is the best at Maxwell's. Even though a few deals are debuting with the changing colors— including 30-cent wings on Thursdays and $3 anything after 10 p.m. every night of the week—their free taco bar makes their Wednesday happy hour a solid choice if you're looking for an after-work snack with your after-work drinks.

We know what you're thinking: free tacos sounds too good to be true. To make sure it wasn't just a ruse, we checked it out for ourselves. Maxwell's could've easily phoned it in with a few hard shells, ground beef and cheese, letting the table stay empty after everything ran out. Instead, they add on to those essential taco elements with some refried beans, lettuce, onion and salsa, and they kept the freebies stocked until 6 p.m.

Add on a tall beer for $5 to those free tacos, and you've got a great happy hour special. Maxwell's, it's good to have you back.
